Sunday, January 23, 2011 - 3:45pm Romney Wins Straw Poll If this is the best Republicans can do in 2012, President Obama is going to have an easy time running for his second term. Al the GOP candidates were substandard in 2008, yet they're the same re-treads who are emerging as presidential nominees for the conservatives. Mitt Romney, Rudy Giuliani, Sarah Palin, Tim Pawlenty, Ron Paul, and Newt Gingrich are the leading, unofficial candidates. Of those, only Pawlenty has never attempted a run at the highest office in the land.
Conservatives should be disappointed that Romney won the New Hampshire straw poll yesterday. He is a terrible politician who says and does whatever is most convenient at the time. When he was Governor of Massachusetts, he was a liberal, pro-choice conservative who raised taxes and fees and grew the size of the state government. When he ran for the Republican nomination for President, he was suddenly a pro-life, fiscal conservative. The bottom-line with Romney is that he's a fraud. Everybody knows it. I suppose he won the straw poll by default. He was the least awful of a dreadful bunch. If the GOP wants a chance to wrest the presidency away from Barack Obama, they're going to need some new blood. Maybe someone not on the radar right now will emerge at the head of the pack. Otherwise, it's going to be another four years of a tax and spend liberal in the White House. Wednesday, January 12, 2011 - 12:30pm Palin Just Doesn't Get It Fringe conservative Sarah Palin took to the airwaves this morning to defend herself against allegations she played a part in the mass murder in Tucson, Arizona that claimed the life of six people and injured a dozen others, including Representative Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ). The Alaskan lunatic had previously released a map showing twenty rifle scopes targeting each specific district in her "crosshairs" where she wanted voters to oust the Democratic candidate. Eighteen of the reps were voted out of office, but not Giffords in Arizona.
The congresswoman was specifically asked about the inflammatory map when Palin released it. Giffords stated that their are consequences for irresponsible acts. Sarah Palin, of course, ignored the warnings and continued to make incendiary remarks about bulls-eyes and encouraging conservatives to re-load their guns.
Gabrielle Giffords basically predicted that something terrible would happen as a result of the provocative rhetoric and she was right. Unfortunately, she was the target and now lays in a hospital bed in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the head. As expected, Palin has accepted zero blame for her gun-toting actions. Instead, the wack-job decided to point fingers at the mainstream media and accuse journalists of "blood libel" (yet another incendiary phrase), for pointing out the obvious correlation between the two events. You can't inflame differences and incite violence against your political opponents and then deny any responsibility when those very lawmakers are gunned down. Palin just doesn't get it. Her whole "career" since being nominated by John McCain has been defined by guns and violence. Her pre-written speech today only demonstrated her lack of intellect and understanding about the problem. With any luck, this tragedy and her idiotic remarks will mark the end of her influence on conservatives and the Republican party. Saturday, January 8, 2011 - 2:00pm Congresswoman Shot in Head Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D) has been shot in Tucson while holding a public event for her constituents. The initial reports are that she was shot in the head at point-blank range. The shooter then fired indiscriminately at other staffers and bystanders. At least 10 people have sustained injuries. Giffords was taken to the nearby University Medical Center, but her condition was not immediately known.
It pains me to say it, but this tragedy was bound to happen eventually. American politics has become extremely divisive in the last ten years and many networks and media members continuously go out of their way to rile up their viewers and increase hostilities. I will put money on this shooter being a die-hard viewer of FoxNews. Wednesday, January 6, 2011 - 8:10pm More GOP Grandstanding The first session of the 112th Congress convened today where the 'adults' were supposedly going to take control and get to work solving our nation's problems. Unfortunately, the Republican members decided to play politics by reading the entire U.S. Constitution. Well, not the whole thing. The original version they constantly profess allegiance to has a few unpleasant sections. The GOP only read the amended and politically correct adaptation, which leaves out slavery and that whole three-fifths of a white person thing.
The politically motivated stunt was brought about by the lunatic tea-party, who always spoke on the campaign trail of wanting to return America to the Constitution. I guess they realized there are parts of the two-hundred and twenty year old document that are nonsensical, outdated, and just plain wrong. What's funny is that conservatives are attempting to claim this document with all the amendments as their own. They must've forgotten that it was liberals fought for the abolition of slavery and for the right of women and blacks to vote. I don't know about you, but I'd say those are pretty significant corrections to the discriminatory document that conservatives intensely fought against at the time. Perhaps the tea-baggers want to return to a world where only white property owners have the right to vote. Tuesday, January 4, 2011 - 7:48pm Debt Ceiling Posturing Does it strikes you as odd that Congress just passed a massive tax-cut extension, thus lowering federal revenue, yet Republicans are now threatening to vote no on raising the debt ceiling? This ceiling limit allows the government to keep spending, and more importantly, to avoid defaulting on all their bonds.
However, you can't have it both ways. If you're adamantly against raising the debt ceiling, you can't vote yes on tax cuts and extensions without any offset. You also need to propose and pass enormous spending cuts in order to avoid reaching the limit. The tea-party conservatives and other moderate GOP members haven't done anything with regard to significant spending reductions, but they're the first to run to the mainstream press to claim they'll vote against raising the debt ceiling. Much like the upcoming phony vote on Obamacare, this issue is much ado about nothing. Republicans are playing political games in hopes of scoring a few points. They are completely bluffing and have no intention of gathering 218 votes to prevent the ceiling from being increased. If they really have enough votes to block this bill, they should focus their attention on slashing federal programs before the deadline date arrives. If all they want is a public no vote on this issue, they are again squandering everyone's time. If they succeed, they would throw the global financial markets into turmoil until it is resolved. Nobody wants that outcome. Monday, January 3, 2011 - 9:25pm House GOP Wasting Time Republicans in the House are planning to submit a bill to repeal President Obama's controversial health care program, despite knowing that it will never pass into law. The new Congress will get together Wednesday and will schedule a vote for January 12th, which means the grandstanding event will last the whole week. While this bill may pass the House easily, it has zero chance of passing the Senate and will never become law so long as Barack Obama is President. Apparently, incoming GOP leader Eric Cantor skipped civics class the day they taught veto power of the president. Therefore, Representative Cantor's first task on the job is to fritter away everyone's time in order to score a few political points against the Democrats. We have serious problems to resolve in this country and the public voted the last deadbeats out in order to fix things. It looks like all they received in return were a new bunch of incompetent losers. Saturday, January 1, 2011 - 1:30pm Crazy Joe Miller Concedes Even though Lisa Murkowski (R) won re-election to the senate in the State of Alaska nearly two months ago, tea-party loon Joe Miller (R) mounted a fierce legal battle to overturn the decision of the voters. After winning the Republican nomination, he proceeded to reveal his true colors by surrounding himself with militants and refusing most media interview requests. Miller subsequently lost to Murkowski, even though she ran as a write-in candidate. It wasn't until last night that he faced reality and folded.
The courts were unanimous in their decisions against Miller. Nevertheless, he continued his march of insanity to get the Alaska Supreme Court to throw out Murkowski's victory. Thankfully, he failed at every turn. Joe Miller proved only that he is a sore loser. Like many politicians before him, Miller felt entitled to the powerful job and wasn't going to let a silly little thing like actual votes change his mind. The scary part is that this freak-show came extremely close to becoming a United States Senator. |
