Friday, October 31, 2008 - 6:30pm Obama Running Ads in Arizona With the polls tightening in the Arizona, Senator Barack Obama is taking it to John McCain on his home turf. As of today, Obama is up on the air with this positive ad.
John McCain has become so worried about his home state that he began running robocalls all week. Barack Obama is also up with ads in North Dakota and Georgia. He has forced McCain to play defense and spend money in a number of states that should go red. Every vote counts and Obama is leaving no stone unturned. Thursday, October 30, 2008 - 6:47pm Don't be Fooled by Early Voting Results Polls show Barack Obama with a significant lead in states that allow voting ahead of November 4th, but don't get too excited. In 2004 John Kerry was leading George Bush in early voting in Iowa and Nevada, but ended up losing both. However, one main difference this year is the number of people expected to vote early. Up to 34% of likely voters are expected to cast an early ballot in 2008, while only 20% voted in advance in 2004. Wednesday, October 29, 2008 - 9:29pm Ok, It Was Very Good Maybe I was expecting H. Ross Perot with pie charts and boring political speak, but the Obamercial was nothing like that. It was actually a very well done show. Wednesday, October 29, 2008 - 7:05pm Obama Overload Am I the only one who thinks it's a bad idea for Obama to run a 30-minute infomercial on all the networks in prime-time? To me, it just draws attention to his ridiculous financial advantage over John McCain. It also strikes me as overkill. People are sick of the wall-to-wall "news" coverage of this election. They want it to end yesterday and they certainly don't want their favorite television shows being interrupted. Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - 7:22pm Election Prediction With a week to go in the election, here is my fearless forecast. Obama will win the popular vote 55-44, with the final 1% being split between Nader, Barr, and Ron Paul. (Paul is on the ballot in MT and LA). The junior Senator from Illinois will win an electoral landslide that is Reagan-esque, with the final tally being 378-160. Senator Obama will win every battleground state and obtain victory in Montana. There will be no waiting up until midnight this time to find out who then next President will be. It will be effectively decided when VA and PA are declared early for Obama. It will become official when Missouri moves to his column. He will even give McCain a run for his money in Arizona, but will come up just short. The Senate will be 59 seats to the left (counting indies Lieberman and Sanders). Al Franken (D) will win Minnesota and Ted Stevens (R) will lose Alaska. Mitch McConnell (R) in Kentucky and Saxby Chambliss (R) in Georgia will battle late into the night, but I believe they will hold and keep the Dems from obtaining complete power. The House will be 260-175 to the left, with the Democrats picking up 24 seats. Michelle "McCarthy" Bachman (R) will lose to El Tinklenberg (D) and the last remaining Republican Congressman in New England, Christopher Shays of Connecticut, will go down in defeat. Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - 12:04am RNC Spending Money in Montana The Republican National Committee feels that it has to play defense in Big Sky Country and spend some bucks for John McCain. Montana is an inexpensive state to advertise in, but it is still money that could be used in other races. Ron Paul is on the ballot and polling at 4% in the latest MSU-Billings poll. His presence is bringing down McCain's numbers. In that poll, Barack Obama is up 44-40. Monday, October 27, 2008 - 6:07pm Convicted!!! Republican Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska has been convicted on all seven corruption charges against him. Each guilty count carries up to a five year prison sentence, although it is likely that Stevens will serve little, if any time behind bars. Although he is now a convict, Ted Stevens could still serve in the Senate if he wins his election. He is in a tight race with Mayor Mark Begich (D). Begich was winning by only one point, 47-46, in the latest poll. How ironic would it be if the U.S. Senate is represented by a convicted felon? Sunday, October 26, 2008 - 11:03pm McCain Up Only 2% in ARIZONA! The race in John McCain's home state of Arizona is getting closer. There are two recent polls that put the Senator ahead by very small margins. The Myers Research/Grove poll has McCain leading 48-44 over Obama, while the Zimmerman & Associates poll has McCain winning only 44 -42. To be sure, many polls show McCain in the lead in Arizona by double digits, but these are the only two polls done in October. He could lose his own state! How embarrassing! Sunday, October 26, 2008 - 3:54pm Alaska Paper Endorses Obama The Anchorage Daily News, the foremost publication in Alaska, has endorsed Senator Barack Obama for President. While they were proud to see their governor on the national stage, they found it far too risky to elect an unqualified candidate to be Vice President.
Any chance red-state Alaska votes for Obama? He is 15.3% behind, so probably not. However, his relative strength could help in the Senatorial election. Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich (D) is currently leading Ted Stevens (R) by 1.4%. That race could go either way. Saturday, October 25, 2008 - 9:07am Palin Fed Up with Handlers Sarah Palin has had enough of John McCain's political advisors. Word is that she is now ignoring the advice of the former Bush aides as she blames them for destroying her public image. This might be the best move she's made thus far. Unfortunately, it may be too late. She only has ten days left in the campaign. Friday, October 24, 2008 - 6:49pm Focus on the Senate The worst thing that can happen on November 4th is if the Democrats gain a filibuster-proof majority. Unfortunately, the Republicans are attacking Barack Obama and are dumping hundreds of millions of dollars into defeating him. What they need to do is concentrate on salvaging as many Senate seats as possible.
According to the map on Pollster.com, the Democrats should have at least 55 seats plus the two independents (Sanders, Lieberman). There are currently five toss-ups. The Democrats only need to win three of the five to get to 60 seats. If they achieve that number, they will have complete control of Washington. The GOP needs to cut their losses, dump McCain, and pour money into those five toss-up elections. If they can't win three, the left will be able to do anything they want. Thursday, October 23, 2008 - 6:35pm Florida Moving Back Toward McCain Did Barack Obama peak too soon in the State of Florida? In more recent polls, John McCain has pulled about even with Obama.
McCain is leading in three of these polls. If McCain keeps chipping away at Obama's lead in other Bush states, he may still have a shot. His chances are slim, but 12 days is a lifetime in politics. This is one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever heard. Barney Frank should concentrate on reducing spending, not stealing money from everyone else. If the Democrats get 60 seats in the House and increase their majority in the House, we might go back to the days where the highest income tax bracket was 94%. Barney Frank wants to punish people for being successful and then have the government waste the money. Tuesday, October 21, 2008 - 8:24am Obama to Leave Trail Senator Barack Obama will leave the campaign trail on Thursday and Friday to visit his dying grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, in Hawaii. It says a lot about a man who is effectively suspending his campaign only two weeks from the biggest election of his life. Obama's grandmother is his last parent alive. I hope that Obama's last link to past is able to see him become President of the United States. Monday, October 20, 2008 - 6:22pm Bachman Backlash A few days ago, Minnesota Congresswoman Michelle Bachman (R) made insane comments about the need to investigate members of Congress to determine whether they are pro-America or anti-America. Since that time, there has been a palpable backlash throughout the country.
Tinklenberg has taken in over $740,000 in just three days. He was previously raising only $63,000 per week. Tinklenberg will now be able to run radio and television ads every day for the last two weeks of the election. What was a solid Republican seat in a Republican district is no more. Here is where the polls stood before the crazy lady opened her mouth.
Bachman had an average lead of 7.5% before her comments. I would expect that lead to completely evaporate. Bachman has become an embarassment to the State of Minnesota. Tinklenberg will win this election going away and the Democrats will pick up yet another seat. Friday, October 17, 2008 - 10:12pm GOP Attempts to Suppress Votes The Republcans are getting desperate. Since they know they're about to get pummeled, they are attempting to suppress voter turnout. They were unsuccessful in their challenge of 200,000 new voters in Ohio. This is very similar to the shady maneuver Hillary Clinton used in the Nevada primary to stop Obama supporters from voting. Thanks to Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Bruner and the U.S. Supreme Court, the Republican Party's first attempt at stealing this election has failed. There will undoubtedly be many more attempts in other states. This Hugo Chavez-like tactic needs to be fought vigorously by the Democrats. All too often, the left has rolled over and let it happen. Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 9:00pm The Danger of 60... Here is the projected map for the U.S. Senate race, courtesy of electoral-vote.com. Their Senate projection is for the Democrats to win 59 seats. However, if just one of the states (KY, MS, GA) categorized as barely GOP should fall to the left, the Democrats will hold the 60 seats needed for a filibuster-proof majority.
If the Democrats do get 60 seats in the Senate, be prepared to hold onto your wallet. The tax increases that will come down the pike will be unprecedented. His body language was atrocious, he acted like a crybaby throughout, and his comments were all over the place. He even brought up Bill Ayers and ACORN, two smears against Barack Obama that aren't true and that the American people don't care about. Senator McCain lost this election tonight. He will leave the national stage as an old, angry, bitter, pathetic shell of the man. The media will call this debate a draw, but the public will call Obama the clear winner...again. McCain isn't even winning in Georgia, where early voting shows him down 6%. Barring a disaster, Senator McCain is going to lose. Monday, October 13, 2008 - 4:26pm Monster Rally The Dow Jones Industrial Average exploded for a 936 point rally today after a week of strong selling. The point increase was the largest ever, surpassing the old high by hundreds of points. In percentage terms, the broader market rose more than 10%.
Hopefully we will see some follow-through in the stock market this week. A one-day increase is great, but what happens the rest of the week is equally important. Since he accepted public financing, he needs the funds of the RNC to help offset Obama's massive money advantage. Thursday, October 9, 2008 - 6:38pm Market Drops for 7th Straight Day Another day, another 679 point decline in the stock market. If this keeps up, Republicans will lose every competitive race. Chuck Todd of NBC pointed out that each day the stock market has fallen significantly, all Republicans decline in overnight polling. According to FiveThirtyEight.com, there is now a 25% chance that Democrats pick up 60 seats in the Senate. That would be a terrible outcome. It would give the left ultimate control. For either party to have full control is never a good idea. The Dow Jones Industrial Average sold off again today, marking the fourth straight triple-digit decline. In the last two days, the Dow has dropped 875 points to 9,447. I would not be surprised if the Dow falls to 8,000. At this rate, it could be there by the end of the week. The more the stock market tanks, the more it helps Barack Obama. Fair or not, the public will assign blame and demand a change to the system. The average score in those five polls: Biden 55%, Palin 32%. Some pundits in the media actually think Sarah Palin won. What debate were they watching?!? They're setting the bar way too low. Governor Palin has come armed with all her right-wing talking points, (i.e. lies) but has no substance behind them. Wednesday, October 1, 2008 - 10:26pm The Root Cause of the Economic Crisis The Financial Services Modernization Act repealed part of the Glass-Steagall Act of 1933 and de-regulated part of the banking industry. Many liberals have pointed to this law to blame Republicans for the economic crisis. Unfortunately, they are incorrect. While repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act was not a wise move, it is a secondary issue and not the root cause of the problem. The real problem was created in 1995 with just one change to the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977.
With the risk in the hands of Wall Street, banks issued loans without caring whether the borrower could afford it or not. There was no longer a reason for lenders to evaluate the creditworthiness of the borrower or their ability to pay. That one change in the Community Reinvestment Act gave birth to immense greed and excess from all parties involved. It spawned 103% financing, negative amortization loans, teaser rates, option ARM's, and all the other exotic mortgages that exist today. Without the securitization of subprime loans, none of this would've happened. We would not have had the insane run-up in housing prices from 1996-2006, we would not have seen a sharp decline in housing the last two years, and we would not have the economic crisis that we have today. In summary, Congress created the whole problem. Shocking, I know.

critical time in our nation's history. Reading this
endorsement, it is as much an approval of Obama as it is an
indictment of John McCain and Sarah Palin.
The
GOP needs to realize their chances of beating Obama are very slim.
If they devote too much time and money on the presidential election,
they will not have anything left to fund close Senate races.
The backlash is coming in the form of money, and lots of it.

The
decline in the market last week helped Barack Obama as the public blamed
Republicans across the board. It remains to be seen whether the
stock market rally will boost John McCain's standing. He needs the
economy to firm up in the next twenty-two days to have a chance.
