Sunday, March 25, 2007 - 5:30pm GOP Finally Starts Turning on the AG After testing the political waters and realizing that they're still warm, a number of Republicans have now decided that Alberto Gonzales has been untruthful and needs to resign. Senators Arlen Specter (R-PA), Chuck Hagel (R-NE), and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) all took more aggressive stands against the AG on the Sunday morning talk shows. In addition, Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) finally called on Gonzales to resign, long after her colleagues had done the same.
None of these clowns demanded Gonzales' resignation when he was rewriting the Geneva Conventions to let Bush and Cheney torture prisoners (including an American citizen). They didn't even grill him when he came up for nomination as AG. At the time, public sentiment was in favor of torture or at the very least was apathetic, so politicians didn't want to come down hard on him.
Now that the media and the bloggers have kept this story on the front page and pushed public sentiment against the Attorney General, these Senators have suddenly developed a conscience. If that's the way it has to be, I guess we'll just have to push these politicos a little bit harder so that TB is out on the street, where he should be. Wait, scratch that, he should be in jail.
