Saturday, September 8, 2007 - 12:00am Democrats Disappearing On Iraq War The reason for a balance of power in Washington is so that each group keeps the other side in check. Unfortunately, the Democrats are refusing to live up to their end of the bargain. Rather than pound Bush and the GOP on their misconduct and incompetence in Iraq, they sit back and let the Republicans do whatever they please. It seems that Keith Olbermann on Countdown is the only one who speaks the truth. The Democrats should start taking after him.
You can be damn sure the Republicans would never let this happen if the roles were reversed. If, god forbid, Hillary Clinton becomes president, conservatives will not let a day go by where they take it easy on her. That is because when it comes to politics, the GOP know what it's doing and the Democrats are directionless. It's just a shame that politics is the only thing the Republicans are good at.
The problem stems from the leadership (or lack thereof) on the liberal side. The Speaker of the House is Nancy Pelosi, who is almost as incompetent as the president. Immediately after taking the speakership, she agreed not to pursue an impeachment against the President, which basically gave his administration the ability to govern unchecked.
The Senate Majority Leader is Harry Reid, who still thinks investing in the stock market is the same as gambling in Las Vegas. That is the argument he made concerning the privatization of social security. As an investment professional, it was appalling to hear such stupidity.
Beyond those two, you have a spineless field of Democratic presidential candidates. Most of them are running to the political middle, which to them means softening the stance on the Iraq war. Neither Hillary Clinton nor Barack Obama has come out recently to blast the White House on Iraq.
The administration continues to spin fairy tales about progress in Iraq and the Democrats continue to do nothing. The American public elected officials to stand up against the Republicans, but instead the public received sniveling cowards.
