Raised
in the Austrian Empire in what is now the Czech Republic,
Alphonse Mucha was a decorative artist and art nouveau
painter. He created posters, illustrations, and
designs for carpets, jewelry, wallpaper, and other items.
The 2012 Alphonse Mucha calendar displays his more classic
work and not the nouveau style he was famous for. His
family spent a few years living in New York City, but
eventually returned to the Czech region and settled in
Prague. The paintings in the Alphonse Mucha 2012
calendars were considered outdated at the time of his death
in 1939, but regained its popularity in the latter half of
the twentieth century. |
