Born in
Hardin County, Kentucky on February 12, 1809 was arguably
the greatest U.S. President in history. Abraham
Lincoln rose to prominence in politics as a Congressman from
Illinois from 1847-1849 and as a state legislator.
This 2012 Abraham Lincoln calendar features some remarkable
photographs from his time in office. He won the
Republican nomination for president in 1860, despite having
lost twice in his bid for the U.S. Senate. Lincoln was
sworn in as President on March 4, 1861 and served for
slightly over four years. The Abraham Lincoln 2012
calendar focuses on those years he was the leader of the
free world. Abraham Lincoln won re-election in 1864
for a second term, but that was cut short by his
assassination on April 15, 1865 by John Wilkes Booth at
Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C. He is buried in Oak
Ridge Cemetary in Springfield, Illinois. |
