Featured locations for the 2012 Volcanoes calendar in
previous years have been Mount St. Helens, Humble Vent, and
Castle Geyser. Although many people are aware that
Hawaii is home to many volcanoes, few would expect Iceland
to be home to them. Mount St. Helens, located near the
Oregon and Washington State border, erupted in 1980 and
spewed lava and ash for hundreds of miles and killed 57
people. In October 2004, it looked like the volcano
may erupt again, as steam spewed out of the top.
Evacuations were ordered, but it was later called off.
In 1984, there was also an eruption of Krafla, which is in
northern Iceland. This 2012 Volcanoes calendar shows many different volcanoes from around the world, with a short description of each. |
