The
Mick lived from 1931-1995 and is considered one of the best
baseball players ever. Mickey Mantle spent his career
with the New York Yankees. He began in 1951 and he
played in the outfield alongside the great Joe DiMaggio.
In 1952, Mantle moved to center field to replace DiMaggio
and his prolific career began to take off. He won
three Most Valuable Player awards and the Triple Crown in
1956. Mickey Mantle is one of the last players to win
the Triple Crown, which is leading the league in home runs,
batting average, and runs batted in. Mickey Mantle
died in 1995 of liver cancer, in part because of alcoholism.
He deeply regretted his alcoholism and tried to make amends
later in life. Mantle was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1974
in his first year of eligibility. |
