"The
Swamp" as it has been nicknamed is Florida Field, is the
football home to the University of Florida Gators. The
Swamp is located in Gainesville, which is in the northern
part of the state. The actual name of the place is Ben
Hill Griffin Stadium. The old ball coach, Steve
Spurrier led the Florida Gators to their first national
championship in 1996. Spurrier is the one who gave it
the nickname. The Swamp was opened in 1930 and has
expanded over the years from 21,000 seats to 93,000.
The Florida Gators plays in the
Southeastern Conference (SEC) and their biggest rival each
year is the University of Georgia. |
