Tuscany is a location in Italy on the western side of the country. It is very well known for it's wines and it has a number of protected areas for production. The region boasts a population of nearly 3.5 million people and it covers an area of approximately 152 square kilometers. It is now a large tourist attraction, as many people travel to Florence, one of it's many provinces. Florence is the capital of Tuscany and has just under 1 million people residing there. The whole region was ruled by the Medici family for generations. After they died out in the 18th century, the Roman Empire took over.
