Jack Vettriano was born in Scotland and is a self taught artist. Jack Vettriano was actually born as Jack Hoggan in 1951, but changed his name. Today, Jack Vettriano lives and works in London and Scotland. He became a painter early on in life, but did not achieve notoriety until 1988. In 1988, Vettriano decided his paintings were ready to be displayed, so he sent two works to a gallery and they both sold in the first day. The demand for his artwork started then and he received much fame in the art world. Jack Vettriano's work centers around romance and he uses himself in his paintings and pictures.
