Below are two posters of Geronimo, a great Native American leader. Geronimo was born in June of 1829 on Turkey Creek. He was born in what is now considered Arizona, although it was part of Mexico at the time. Geronimo lived until February of 1909.
Geronimo is a prominent Native American leader who lived during the 19th century. He battled against both American and Mexican troops to protect his land. Geronimo was well known for his ability to evade all troops that were after him. There were 5,000 troops chasing just 38 of his people. He finally surrendered in September of 1886. Geronimo was sent to prison by the Americans who had chased his people off their own land. He later moved to Oklahoma, but was never allowed to return home to where he grew up. In 1940, American paratroopers watched a movie about him and began shouting "Geronimo" every time they jumped out of an airplane. It was a trend that caught on in many places.
