Four
significant leaders of our country so beloved that
they were carved into the mountainside and admired to create Mount Rushmore.
George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas
Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt each possessed
great skills and leadership. Washington was the first President of the United States and set the tone for what was to come. Lincoln was the 16th president and helped free the slaves before he was assassinated in 1865. Jefferson was the nation's third president and wrote the Declaration of Independence. Roosevelt was the 26th president and also considered one of the greatest. He helped to build the Panama Canal, after taking it from Colombia. It was because of these achievements that Mount Rushmore serves as a symbol of their lives.
