Nicknamed the friendly frontier, Abilene is situated in Taylor County, about a two hour drive west of Fort Worth, Texas. It was developed by cattle ranchers as a shipping center in the late 1800's. The Abilene t-shirts even include a colorful star to remember the state. In terms of demographics, 78% of the people are white, with 9% black and 13% of other races.
