Typically a neighborhood within a borough within a city
would not garner enough support for their own t-shirts, but
Astoria is no ordinary neighborhood. Across the Hell
Gate and Triborough Bridges is the Astoria section of Queens
in New York City. The Astoria t-shirts feature the
Hell Gate Bridge that brings you into the area. An
astonishing 2.2 million people live in Queens, which is
divided up into just a few neighborhoods. The other
Astoria t-shirt shows the Queens borough as well. Like
much of New York, the area is defined by ethnic heritage.
The Greeks and Irish immigrated to the area and have made a
footprint here. Astoria is named after John Jacob
Astor, a millionaire from the early 1800's who invested a
whopping $2,000 into the area. |
