The
magic city of steel that is only twenty five miles from
Chicago, Illinois is the community of Gary. The
Indiana city runs along Lake Michigan in the northwest part
of the state and gets its name from a vast number of steel
mills in town. The Gary t-shirts exhibit support for
the town that has seen tough times in recent years.
Economic depression led to a spike in violent crime, drug
usage, and other related incidents. The colorful Gary,
Indiana t-shirts have a blue, white, and green pattern.
Since 1960, the population has experience "white flight",
which has led to a steep decline in the number of residents.
What was once a thriving metropolis of 178,000 is now a
struggling 99,000. However, Gary, Indiana has made it
through the tough times and is ready to turn the corner. |
