The Big
Easy and the birthplace of Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday is the
party city of New Orleans. The Louisiana city is also
renowned for jazz music, fine cuisine, and other festivals.
The New Orleans t-shirts reference the levee that surrounds
and protects the city from the Gulf of Mexico and Lake
Pontchartrain. The city is from 6 1/2 feet to 20 feet
below sea level. The re-New Orleans t-shirts implies
re-growing and rebuilding the once beautiful city.
Hurricane Katrina devastated the proud city of New Orleans,
Louisiana on August 29, 2005. The levees protecting
the city broke and flooded nearly all of New Orleans.
People had to be rescued off the roofs of their houses as
the water rushed up past the second floor. Hundreds of
thousands were left without homes and 1,500 Americans died
as a result of the catastrophe. The U.S. government
was extremely slow in responding to the crisis in New
Orleans, Louisiana. To this day, they are sloppy.
However, other groups have stepped up and are helping to
rebuild. It is estimated it will take a full decade
for the city to completely recover. |
