The
capital city of Rhode Island is the Renaissance City of
Providence. The New England city is home to 177,000
people, with an additional 1.4 million on the outskirts.
The Providence t-shirts give props the burgeoning city on
the cusp of a breakthrough. The history of the city is
one of textile, jewelry, and other manufacturing lines.
It's history also includes being a stronghold for organized
crime from the 1950's through 1980's. The Providence
t-shirts don't show it, but that stigma has been largely
removed. Today, Providence, Rhode Island is
experiencing a complete makeover and resurgence, thanks to
billions of dollars being poured in by real estate
developers. Three luxury condominiums are being
constructed along with plans for an office tower on Empire
Street and a hotel on Fountain Street. The Dunkin
Donuts Center in downtown Providence is being remodeled and
should be completed in late 2008. When finished, it
will boost the business of the Rhode Island Convention
Center, which it will be attached to. Also, the Boston
to Providence commuter rail line will be extended to T.F.
Green International Airport and beyond into Warwick.
This should bring more commuters into the city. |
